GRAY’S PAPAYA

I went to Gray’s Papaya in New York, a small chain that has many imitators, so I made sure to go to the original. It’s a hot dog joint, with 100% fruit juice drinks that are made fresh. I learned about this place from Anthony Bourdain on No Reservations. I think the main thing that makes this place popular is that it’s so cheap.

Hurray for Gray's Papaya!

All the signs and decorations inside. I don't know who's head is in my shot.

I got the fresh papaya drink. It was very tasty.

After eating hot dogs any digestion aid is good.

You can't beat this special! I heard they are opening up a Gray's Papaya in Hollywood. I wonder if they will have the same prices.

Here is my meal. I didn't get the combo, just one dog with mustard and a papaya drink. There are no tables, just a counter. If you go, order the combo, one dog is not very filling.

DELICIOUS DELUCA’S DELI

Appelina posted about our trip to Deluca’s Italian Deli so I figured I should post about it too since I took some pictures of it. I guess this little Italian deli has been here for a while but I rarely go to the Americana so I didn’t know about it. Hubby suggested A and I try it so we did. It’s mainly a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches. There were also some pantry goods available for sale, as well as a meat and cheese counter. For an eatery it was very good, but as an Italian market I still prefer the one I go to on Magnolia in Burbank.

The deli counter where you place your order

Here's the sandwich menu, with specials down at the bottom.

The back of the store where you pay, past the beverage selection.

Some of the dry goods for sale. They do have two kinds of Latini pasta, which I love. They also have Lavazza coffee, one of my favorite brands.

The selections of oils and vinegars for sale.

The communal tables are made from old wine crates.

My order - the three salad combo. I chose the green salad, which came with a great balsamic vinaigrette, a wild rice salad with cranberries and almonds, and a pasta salad with tomatoes and fresh mozzarella.
