KILAUEA POINT NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – 3

Here are some Nene birds, Hawaii’s state bird, a Hawaiian Monk Seal that is sun bathing, and some nesting birds that I think are Shearwaters.

Some nesting Nenes.

Here’s the seal.

Closer up of the seal.

A shearwater I think.

HAWAII – WAIKIKI AQUARIUM VARIOUS CRITTERS

Here are the “miscellaneous” critters that I saw at the Waikiki Aquarium.

A Nautilus, but the light was low so it looks like a weird alien.

A Commerson’s Frogfish

Some sort of puffer fish.

And some kind of neat looking shrimp.

A Hawaiian monk seal. So cute!

HAWAII – WAIKIKI AQUARIUM JELLYFISH

It was very hard to take photos of the jellyfish. Aquatic life just won’t stay still! The first photo is of a moon jellyfish, and the rest are lagoon jellies.

HAWAII – WAIKIKI AQUARIUM CORAL AND CLOWN FISH

The Waikiki Aquarium collections are focused on reefs. They have some beautiful corals and lots of cute colorful fish swimming in and out of them. The coral in the last photo makes me think of garlic cloves.

HAWAII – WAIKIKI AQUARIUM GIANT CLAMS

One of the places I went to on my free day was the Waikiki Aquarium. They have a nursery where they are growing giant clams. I never realized that they were so colorful when they’re alive! I guess I’ve just seen the giant shells after the death of the clams. The colors are fantastic!
