Needless to say I just pre-ordered the deluxe bundle that comes with:

  • A gold* Wii Remote Plus controller
  • A special music CD featuring orchestral arrangements of select songs that will be performed at The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Plus, so I don’t miss a single microscopic side quest, I ordered the special collector’s addition strategy guide!

It should all be here after Thanksgiving because I got the cheap shipping option. And then nobody will every hear from me again because my brain will be in Hyrule.

This year is the city of Burbank’s 100th birthday. Last Friday was the “birthday party,” a celebration in downtown Burbank. Appelina, J, and I walked down there to check it out. It was CROWDED. If it wasn’t within walking distance I wouldn’t have gone. Here are the two highlights that I enjoyed most.

There’s a classic car club in Burbank and they were at the street party showing off their cars. In this old police cruiser was a dog getting a lot of attention. I’m pretty sure he was sleeping through all of it though.

There was also a cool swing band which performed a USO show. They were the Wartime Radio Revue. They were nice to listen to, and a ton of couples were dancing.

This is my first post from my new iPad. I figured I should use it for something besides video games.

By using my iPad I can post while sitting on the toilet in the bathroom. I like multitasking like that. Plus I’m practicing my two-fingered typing. I’m normally a pretty good typist using two hands but this is just the tiny screen keyboard.

I was going to post a picture of Squeaky but she wandered out of the bathroom so I can’t take a picture of her now.

That is a picture of one of the bathrooms in Central Park. I thought it fitting since I’m in the bathroom right now.

Squeaky came back in so here is a picture of her. My bathroom door doesn’t shut properly so she pushes it open and falls over to get belly rubs.

I live in Los Angeles. Every once in a while during the winter, we get this strange phenomenon called “snow.” It’s this frozen water that appears overnight like magic! Considering our winters rarely get below 50F degrees, getting snow in the nearby mountains low enough to hike to is very rare indeed. It snowed over the weekend so Hubby and I took the opportunity to hike to some nearby snow in the Angeles Forest.

Oh my God it's SNOW!!

Snow in the distance. We didn't go quite that high.

Mountain lion tracks or big puppy?

Hubby hiking. He started a snowball fight. I won when I nailed him in his manly bits on accident.

Hubby showing off his waterproof boots at a river crossing.

Still going up!

Pretty cloud formation.

A view of the La Crescenta valley. We live on the other side of those mountains.

Pretty yellow flowers.

A turkey vulture - black feathers with a featherless red head.

Cute fuzzy plants.

A fire came through the mountains last year. Here are some charred stumps surrounded by new green growth.

For New Year’s Eve Hubby and I went to Palm Springs. On 12/31, we went to the Coachella Valley Preserve, which has marshy areas and palm tree groves, a real oasis in the desert. Here are some pics.

A lonely poofy cloud over the freeway, somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

This toilet seat cover rotates so you sit on a sanitized toilet every time! I love technology!

This is one of the bridges through the palm grove. The palms grow close together so it's very dense.

A stump of a palm in the middle of other palms.

Palm leaves intertwining. I think palms in Los Angeles would do this too but gardeners trim off the dried up leaves leaving only the green on top.

Baby tree amidst grownup trees.

Looking straight up.

A bird living in the palms, still not sure what kind it is.

Raccoon prints!

McCallum's Pond at the oasis, very high saline content. Crystal clear.

Walking away from the groves into "Moon Country."

A Vista Point!! In honor of my dad who could never pass by a good vista without taking at least 20 photos.

A bit of "moon country," the Coachella Valley desert.

More desert. Since it is winter it was in the 50's. We hiked for 2 hours, which we wouldn't have been able to do in the summer.

Snow!! But so far away...

I wasn’t quite sure how to post all my Utah pictures considering there are over 130 of them, so I’m going to do some by topic. Today’s topic – BOOZE! Utah is considered by many to be a ‘dry’ state, but if you’re in Salt Lake City or Park City there is plenty of beer and other alcohol. We went to three beer breweries, and one whisky distillery. It was fun. Here are some photos. We went to Squatters, Red Rock, Wasatch, and High West. And I’d just like to say that everywhere we ate had excellent food.

First up is Squatters. We ate here in Salt Lake City after we first arrived. It was my second favorite when it came to beer.

Squatter's Brewhouse sampler

Yes, I ate meat, but it was Niman Ranch burger which means it came from a family run humane and sustainable ranch. AND IT WAS DAMN GOOD! And those are garlic fries. Mmmm.

Next was Red Rock in Park City the first night we were there. It was my least favorite, but it’s because their main focus is food, and not beer. And the candelabra thing the beer came in was HEAVY.

The beer sampler at Red Rock in Park City.

The last brewery was Wasatch in Park City, and it was our favorite beer. This one didn’t have a sampler of 6 3-oz tastes like the other brewhouses, but they had 5-oz samples for $1.75!! That is nuts! I had the Apricot Hefewiezen and the seasonal Pumpkin Spice which was fantastic. Here are photos of the beer stills.

Beer in the making

Beer making technology at work

After having lots of beer at lunch we then went to the High West Whiskey Distillery for dessert. We shared this butterscotch pudding thing which was fabulous and I ate it before I took a picture. Oh well. We had samples of their five whiskeys and two vodkas. I recommend the Rendezvous whiskey and the straight vodka, not the peach vodka, which was too peachy for me.

From left to right, Rendezvous, 21 year, 16 year, and a "bourye" blend of bourbon and rye whiskey.

It was a very libatious weekend.

This past weekend Hubby and I went to the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont. It’s part of the Claremont colleges, I think. They only have California native plants. I took a lot of pictures so I’m going to break them up into different posts. First I will post the pictures of some of the sculptures that were around the Garden that I thought were pretty or interesting.

The Sentinal

The Sentinel from a different angle.

Root Sculpture

I think this represents a hummingbird.
