DESIGN AT DWELL

Last weekend, Appelina, her boyfriend J, and I went to the Dwell Design show at the LA Convention Center. It is full of artisans showing off their crafts, vendors showing off their new toilets and fridges, hipsters, and chickens. Here are a few of the miscellaneous interesting things we saw there.

The entrance to the Dwell Show.

Some kids stuff - a table topped with layers of colored paper for coloring. That would be neat to have if you're a kid.

This deer ink drawing was part of a room display. I just liked it.

A cute little sink. I wonder if water splashes out of it easily.

A cute hanging mirror made out of a repurposed bag or possibly an old hat box. Without trying to, I got a really nice reflection it in. I want it.

A cute little wall projection. It would be neat if you could switch the images whenever you wanted to.

CRAFTASTIC!

Yesterday Appelina and I went to the Urban Craft Center in Santa Monica for an introductory class on printmaking. We did two kinds of printing. One was silkscreening and the other was with a rolling thing normally used for etched prints. We sucked at the rolling thing. Here is a picture of one of my hands after washing it a million times. I was using green ink.

We were both much better at the screening prints. Here are to prints that I made. The first is on muslin, and the second is on some IKEA fabric. The gray flowers are part of the fabric.

Now we can make our own prints at home and get ink all over our apartments.

Afterward we went to Shoop’s Delicatessen. It’s a cute little German deli. I had the German salami on a baguette, and Appelina had a southwestern omelet. It was very continental of her. Here is a picture of the remains of my sandwich.

It was very good. If you are in the area I suggest stopping by, the service was great and they had a mini store too where I bought a chocolate sampler. They also had German sausage made in California. I like the little man on the sausage.

BREAKFAST AT HOME

Hubby and I went to Home Restaurant for breakfast today for my birthday because we had a coupon. I had the french toast, which was good. He had a California omelette with home fries, and the home fries were good. I also got a Mimosa and he got a Bloody Mary. We were sitting on the patio so there were puppies next to us. One is probably an Australian shepherd mix, and the other is a white German shepherd that was HUGE. When he stood up his back touched the underside of the table.

Mmmm, breakfast booze

GETTING AN ASS KICKIN’

So I’ve started to go to this gym called Pop Physique. They do a mix of aerobics, weights, stretching, pilates, and bar. Basically from the first minute in you are in excruciating pain and it continues for the next 59 minutes. Plus I go to the one in Silver Lake, which is like a giant hive of hipsters. I swear I see at least one American Apparel leotard every time I go. But they have a great photo on their website, and if they can make my ass look like this, I’ll keep going:

PHILIPPE’S HOT DIP

So after the Renegade Craft Fair we walked over to the famous Philippe’s restaurant, home of the French Dipped Sandwich. It is well worth the wait in line. Here is a picture I took while we waited in line:

And here is a picture of my food. I got the single-dipped beef sandwich, a side of cole slaw, and a diet Coke. And don’t forget to add their home made spicy mustard! It made my eyes water! Delicious!
